Ice Cream Cupcake Contest Entry 2012

Well, I finally got around to creating my entry for the Ice cream cupcake contest. This contest was created by The Cupcake Project Ice Cream Cupcake Contest Page and Scoopalicious. So here is my prized entry, I have created:

Introducing... (Cue trumpets) The Burger Cupcake! A normal vanilla cupcake, iced with vanilla buttercream frosting, it has appetizing condiments specially crafted from fondant (lettuce and tomato), and the best part: The "Death by Chocolate" Ice cream patty! Don't you just want to take a bite? Below is my recipe for this mouth-watering creation:

(Basic cupcake recipe excerpt from Kiki Magazine)

Yield: About 12 large cupcakes

Ingredients:

· 1/2 cup plus 1 Tbsp. soft butter

· 1 cup sugar

· 3 eggs

· 1 tsp. vanilla extract

· 1 1/2 cups plain flour

· 1 tsp. baking powder

· 3/4 cup milk

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius)

2. Beat butter and sugar together until creamy. Keep beating the mixture while you add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time.

3. Sift flour and baking powder into another bowl; add half of this to the wet ingredients and old in. Then add half the milk, then the rest of the dry ingredients, and the remaining milk, mixing after each addition.

4. Place cupcake papers into a muffin tin. Fill each paper 3/4 full with mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.

I hope you enjoy this recipe and my burger cupcake. To make your cupcake look like a burger, cut the cupcake in half and ice the top in beige icing. Sprinkle the top with orange sprinkles. Then place fondant lettuce pieces and tomato pieces into the cupcake, and scoop a flattened patty of chocolate ice cream into the center. Refrigerate immediately. Enjoy!

Tried and True Fave Blog Line up

Welcome To Frost Me Gal! I can't even tell you how excited I am to be starting up a blog! Of course I have made other ones, but they haven't lasted very long I have to admit. But this one I am determined to stick with. I am passionate about baking, and I thought to myself: Why not share my passion with those fellow bakers out there.

So first off: TGIF! This week has lasted forever! But thankfully today is a PA day for us public schoolers! I recently discovered several awesome baking and cooking blogs out there, and would like to share them with you. Here are the links and descriptions:

The Cupcake Project: http://www.cupcakeproject.com/
This is an amazing blog for all things cupcakes. Every time I think I have found the last of amazing recipes, I discover something new. One of my favourite recipes from this blog is The Cookie Dough Icing Recipe, which I haven't gotten a chance to try yet, but it looks decadent! I also love the eye catching layout of this blog.

Iowa Girl Eats: http://iowagirleats.com/
I love this blog simply because of the voice Kristen (author) creates when writing her posts. I feel like she is standing right there talking to me! She also has some amazing recipes! One of my favourite (tried and true) recipes of hers is the no-yeast Required Cinnamon rolls. They are to die for, and super easy!

Bakerella: http://www.bakerella.com/
I haven't gotten much of a chance to explore this blog yet, but I am very excited to. It seems full of good baking stories, recipes and tips.

The Forest Feast: http://www.theforestfeast.com/
This blog is a very interesting blog to read. The photographs are amazing and the recipes look decadent. Talk about an amazing life story! This blog is about how a New York photographer moves to the woods.

Love From the Oven: http://www.lovefromtheoven.com/
This is more of a website than a blog, but the recipes look sooooo good! I mean; who doesn't want to sink your teeth into sundae cupcakes and homemade donuts? The site is jam packed with recipes that will melt in your mouth,

Half Baked: http://www.thecakeblog.com/
This website inspires me to be a baker when I get older. All the cake decorating work is beautiful. I will explore this more and get back to you.

Well that's the line up for now, but I am sure there will be more to come! I also wanted to mention the ice cream cupcake contest I am entering On the Cupcake project right now. Check it out, maybe you could be the next cupcake champion!

Peace Out,
Ashley: Frost Me Gal
